Pre reading list

Could you all please use the directed reading list above. As I said in the general email. I had a "senior's moment" and instead of forwarding this to you before the long weekend it seems I only sent it to YNH. So could you all please get as much of this done as you can for Monday. It will help you enormously and the result could be finishing two combined assessments in two F2F sessions. That must sound quite attractive - no work at home. Finding out your learning style is also part of this assessment. Give it a go and do your best!

Learning Style
Find out what your learning style is from one of the links below. This is quite fun and interesting. Keep these sites or your favourite one in your resources file for your future students.

¨ The two above completed assessments with all questions appropriately answered where indicated.
¨ One lesson plan, not related to Competency Standards, clearly indicating use of the models,
¨ One activity for your students for completion during the above planned session (resourced or developed by you).It doesn't matter if the activity was not done.
¨ Your self evaluation of your delivery using the checklist,
¨ Three lesson plans, clearly indicating use of the models, of three consecutive, sequential sessions of one hour duration each and based on a Training Package competency standard,
¨ One activity for your students for completion during one of the above planned sessions (resourced or developed by you),
¨ Your self evaluation of your delivery using the checklist,

Sunday 16th May
The port sounds good especially with a slice of pecan pie. Thanks Karen! See you all soon. Gabby

Gabby
While meandering in the Barossa, look out for Kellermeister Wineries. They make the most delightful liquer port (think choloclate & herbs) called SAble. You can only purchase it there. Also stop if you find Bethany Wineries - they made the most divine white port. There use to be an old home converted to a cafe/restaurant along the main street in Tanunda - made the best pecan pie. I lived half hour or so away from the Barossa once upon a lifetime ago. Fond memories. Enjoy
Karen

13th May

Well a few weeks off for me, from Saturday15th, will be very welcome as I have been very busy. Ross and I plan to go along the Murray in our caravan and then on to the Barossa Valley for a few days R&R- eating and trying out the local wines and visiting the famous Farmers Market at Nuriootpa, the historic Seppeltsfield Chateau as well Maggies Beer's Famhouse shop as well as touring around and looking at the little European style towns that dot the Barossa. We will be back in time for me to join in on the last Elluminate session for E learning on 7th June.

15th April Gabby
Since I referred to them in my email I thought you might want to see them. They are readily available on the Internet. When you read these you can see what attributes you need to be displaying. Training and Assessing is as much about who you are as it is about the knowledge you have.

9th April Gabby
It has been brought to my attention that "Use training packages to meet client needs" is not as easy as it seems. Although the assessment itself is short, it is quite complex in what it is asking you to do. Therefore providing there are no major objections I plan to spend a good part of the session time on Monday going through the assessment with you and completing Assessment 1 Parts 1 & 2 as a group activity and if we have time Part 3 as well. You should then be able to go and complete Assessment 2 individually at home. Assessment 3 is actually adding to your own personal directory and the questions were answered in Work effectively in VET so certainly does not need to be answered again. If you feel that you do not need this assistance let me know.We will still spend some time on Monday looking at parts of Plan and organise group-based delivery and the following Monday will be spent on "Plan and organise group-based delivery" combined with "Facilitate group-based learning" in preparation for your own delivery demonstrations. If there are enough objectors I will see those having trouble at another time.

8th April Gabby
If you are trying to complete assessments without reading the manuals and completing the activities you are missing out on skills and knowledge you will need in order to be a competent Trainer and Assessor. It also makes answering the questions in the assessments so much easier.

7th April Gabby
Use training packages is all about showing that you understand what a Training Package contains (unpacking)
and how a Training Package can be used. Read your manual and do the activities in the manual. Read each question carefully, think about it and answer it thoroughly. Several questions may require two or three sentences others ask for a report - possibly 1/2 page at the most. It really depends on the question.
The most important thing is to read and do the activities in the manual first.

7th March Gabby

Here are the activities for our next Elluminate session on Monday 15th March. They have also been emailed to everyone. All Elluminate activities are designed to either summarise what you may already have read, or introduce you to a unit. They also help me to see how familiar you are with the Learners Guides and their content. A very important part of training and assessment is making sure your students have all the "required knowledge skills and attributes" as stated in the Evidence Guide of each unit. The students must demonstrate they have this required skill, knowledge or attribute on several occasions, not just one eg: formal assessment. If you haven't already read the Units of Competency for the Environment Field you are doing at the moment (in the Appendices for each unit) you should do so, as the Unit of Competency describes in detail what you should know and be able to do by the time you have completed the unit. It is also a way of familiarising yourself with the structure of a Unit of Competency.

7th March Gabby
Once again thank you to all those people who submitted their answers to Elluminate 1/3. I am now waiting on six people to submit theirs. There will be no more reminders for this activity,

4th March, Gabby
Thank you to all those who handed up their answers to our Elluminate session. I am still waiting on nine people to hand up their answers to Elluminate 1/3. These should have been ready for the session on the 1/3 so I don't understand why you haven't sent them in. They are part of your Foster and promote an inclusive culture, assessment as explained in my reply to Gary on 2/3 (see below). So Monday is the very last day for submission of these answers. Thanks all. I know that nine of them will be sitting in my computer tonight!!!
Everyone could you please remember to put your name on any work you hand up. It is very difficult to try to pick who sent what after I have printed it out. Thanks

3rd March, Gabby
For those of you who are concerned about handing in assessments for our first three units (The Environment Field), I have changed the date for submission of all three to 29th March. Remember Work effectively in vocational education and training is now up to you. Read the manual and work your way through slowly and methodically, the manual tells you when it is time to complete an assessment task.

2nd March, Gabby

Hi Gabby,

For assessment, do we need to answer all of the questions below, or just the one with our name next to it?

This was asked by me, Gary Bausch

The above question was received by email from a student. It refers to the questions you were all given to answer for our Elluminate session on 1st March. I thought it was such a good question that I should post it here for you all to see, along with my reply.

Gabby's reply
You only need to submit the question you were asked to answer. Once all the answers are in they will be collated and retyped and then attached to your Foster and promote an inclusive learning culture, with a note that this activity was a group activity conducted via Elluminate, an E Learning medium. As you know the learner guides which I used for the Environment Field of this course were superseded, YNH was not informed by the publishing company so my initial planning and all associated YNH paperwork was prepared with learner guides which were issued late 2008. You have the new learner guides. One essential aspect that your learner guides have that mine didn't was specific references to peak government bodies and organisations and their roles in education, particularly adult education. So that you were not disadvantaged I incorporated these questions in our last Elluminate class. It would not have been fair to ask you to answer them all, along with the assessment you already have to complete, so I made it a group activity.

If anyone would like their own copy of this, since YNH are obliged to keep the assessments let me know and I will email you a copy as well

I plan to use this page to allow you to discuss with me anything at all in relation to the course.

ok thankyou Gabby, it will come in handy :) from carrie-ann

1st March

WOW everyone -how was the first Elluminate tonight??
I found it hard to not talk to myself, because I didn't have the mic and no one could hear me.
Gabby - can we send you our assignments as we finish them or hand them in on the due date?

You can hand them in whenever they are finished. Sounds like you enjoyed the session! Gabby
